Volunteer ETS; Trained at Piarco; KIA on 22 Oct 1943. Halifax W297 took off from Lissett airfield at 1745hrs on 22 Oct 1943; bombing mission on Kassel; aircraft failed to return. No survivors. Buried at Hanover War cemetery, Germany, Plot 1, Row C, Grave 3. Kasel raid comprised 569 aircraft – 322 Lancs., 247 halifax; loss rate 7%. Raid was exceptionally accurate and resulted in a firestorm – Son of Emmanuel Paul and Lelia Inez Cipriani, of Port of Spain, Trinidad.

September 1st, 2009 at 3:00 pmi am doing geneology on my foreparents.mervyn cipiani was the child of my grandmother”s(leontine burke)sister(lelia cipriani).if anyone can give me any more info on the history of mervyn in the RAF,i would appreciate it.thanks,david mellor
