Ricky Richardson joined the RAF in 1941 after seeing an advertisement in a Jamaican newspaper. He arrived in Britain in November of that year. Qualifying as a navigator, he began operational flights in late 1943. He took part in bombing raids that sunk the German battleship Lutzow and on Hitler’s Eagle Nest retreat at Berchtesgaden, in Bavaria.
