ED838 was lost on a mission to Essen. It would appear that the aircraft could well have been claimed by one or more German flak batteries near the Dutch coast, with one of these claiming an aircraft to have been downed to the West of Bergen at 02:36 hours, 1st May 1943. No wreckage or bodies have ever been recovered and all seven crew were logged as Killed-in-Action.
